Big 10 football update
by eric mayo
If you are one of those people, like me, going to our homecoming game yet just can’t
get enough good football, then look no further for your favorite Big Ten team’s
opponent on Saturday, October 12, 2013.
Michigan at Penn State at 5pm EST Michigan State vs. Indiana at 2pm EST Nebraska at Purdue at 12pm EST Ohio State and the rest of the Big 10 are on a bye week. |
Many people have talked about Michigan's shaky games against both UCONN and Akron, but they
looked a lot better during their homecoming victory against Minnesota. Ohio State, those nasty things, are
undefeated under second year coach Urban Meyer, but had a close win over
Northwestern.Michigan State, still
trying to figure out an offense, is off
to a solid start with the exception of a loss at Notre Dame. Iowa, 4-2, are 2-0 on the road, but
lost to Michigan State. Indiana
isn’t having a bad season at 3-2 with a win over Penn State on October 5th. Penn State is 3-2, but will be ineligible
for any BCS bowl games this year due to the Sandusky scandal. Minnesota is also 3-2, and having a
very average season when compared to the last few years. Coach Jerry Kill was
out with a seizure for their game against Michigan on the 5th. Northwestern is surprising many people
this year, coming out of the first half of their season at 4-1, only losing to
Ohio State. Wisconsin isn’t looking as good as they have the past couple of
years, sitting at 3-2, losing to both Ohio State and Arizona State, both of
those games being on the road. Nebraska is
4-1, which is average for them, beating Illinois last Saturday 39-19. Illinois is at 3-2, with both losses on
the road. Purdue, or as they should be known “Purdon’t”,
is 1-4 as of October 5th, having their only win against Indian
State, final score 20-14.

The
Detroit Lions are off to a fair start this season with a record of 2-4.
Although it’s early in the season, you can already see the improvements.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford has been able to get the ball out of his hands
faster and already has helped the team a lot; he set two NFL records in the
first three weeks of the season. The offensive line is doing a great job of
giving him enough time to find an open receiver. The line has protected Stafford ; he is the least-sacked quarterback
as of October 4th. The Lions new faces on the offensive line have
been impressive.
Reggie Bush a running back picked up from the Miami Dolphins during the off-season is in Detroit and we are more than happy to have him here with the way he has been playing. Kicker David Akers is also new to the Lions. Although he was off to a rough start, he’s settling in.
Always in the news, Suh already had to pay a $100,000 fine for an illegal chop block during the season opener against the Minnesota Vikings. Hopefully this is the last fine for him. Calvin Johnson had been doing great until he injured his knee when the Lions played Chicago, this caused him to miss the Green Bay Packers game which ended in a loss of 22-9. This year might be the Lions’ year to go back to the playoffs and possibly the Superbowl!

March Madness!!!!
By ~ Unknown
The month of March is the best time of the year for basketball fanatics around the globe. The infamous season of intense basketball is better off known as “March Madness”. It takes place once every year in March. This year the first round of the brackets started up March 19th and March 20th.
Not only is March Madness a chance for everyone to watch their favorite teams go head to head for the championship title but it’s a chance for everyone to make a little money. The March Madness bracket is the grid of all the teams in the tournament and the path they have to follow to the Final Four and the championship game. Brackets are perhaps the biggest key to popularity in the tournament. You are able to bet money on how well your bracket might do which gives you a chance to make some money along the way. I Sixty-eight different division one teams line up with a shot to win a national title. As the tournament progresses the teams that keep winning make it to the sweet sixteen, then the elite eight and then the final four which turns into the championship game. Currently the teams who have won are entering the “sweet-sixteen” part of the tournament. Our local team favorites the Michigan State Spartans and the Michigan Wolverines are both moving on up in the March Madness bracket. Make sure you tune in and watch this Friday March 28th. If you love basketball March Madness is the tournament for you!
